As a painter I make transcending images originated from real life. My paintings very often start from depicting the most plain and common actions or contexts; I simply begin by building an image that has encrypted a deep personal meaning, an unspoken confession. Tiny gestures performed by enchanted figures in domestic scenes make the work reveal strong human emotions. Simple daily encounters are transformed and dramatized in order to give away the vulnerability of the human nature. It is a meta-narrative in the spirit of a magic-realist novel, told through the painting medium. Within these small-scale images, I am trying to show my own fragmented truth of life. 

Gabriel Stoian graduated from the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca's doctoral program in 2014 and made his debut as an emerging artist in the same year. His first exhibition takes place in the ALERT Studio (White Code) in Bucharest, followed by numerous activities in the local art scene and on an international level. His artistic practice consists of a democratic approach to all known visual media. However, it is easy to observe that painting is at the core of his creative process. The works are often explained by the artist as confessions, intimate and poetic, imminent experiences are envisioned by Gabriel Stoian as direct genres. It would be easy to place Gabriel Stoian amongst the principles of the New Romanticism, discussed in the Germanic space for the first time, this classification is rather limiting in relation to the total body of his work.
