About the Artist
"In a lyrical way she translates "landscape" into a real-spatial and at the same time ephemeral image of light and shadow, of transparent pieces of nature and graphic projections. The technical means used, which partly originate from graphic prints and partly from stage lighting, indicate that nature and its experience cannot be reproduced, although nature as the supposedly untouched always serves as a projection surface. In her work, the artist also reflects her constant commuting between Hungary and Austria, which, in addition to questions about her own location, also makes politically and socially conditioned scenarios virulent. (Nicolaus Schafhausen)
Karina Mendreczky's works revolve around human and social identity, which interest the artist as a collective as well as a personal phenomenon. Her childhood memories serve as a starting point. Her works show recurring elements such as photo collages, etchings on Japan paper, delicately scratched drawings on Acrlyl glass. Often, she works with translucent structures using the effect of light and shadow.
