Katja Gürtler

Falling, Spotting, Holding

Katja Gürtler (*1988), born in Xanten, Germany, lives and works in Vienna since 2011. 2019 graduated in Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, class for expanded painterly space with Daniel Richter and Francis Ruyter.

In her current works for Parallel 2024, Katja Gürtler focuses her attention and painterly investigation on a state that is characterized by its ephemerality and radical nature: falling and letting oneself fall. To be between spaces and places, a brief moment in the uncertainty of the future. To no longer be here and not yet there.

But what does it mean to let go, to let go, to enter the unknown? Are you mocked and held? Can you hold on to yourself?

Letting yourself go as a radical act of trust - in society, in a relationship, in yourself.

Polina Sokolova

doors are closing

Polina Sokolova (*1999), born in Tver, Russia, has been living and working in Vienna, Austria, since 2018 and has been studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Daniel Richter's class since 2021. Using the media of painting and installation, she explores how political control mechanisms penetrate our private lives and change our memories and perceptions. A generational trauma based on fear and shame forms a basis for the visual analysis she deals with. With her work, she attempts to look at the complex interplay between violence and power, identity and intimacy from a personal point of view. She reflects on these themes in the context of the conservative society she comes from.
