Duration: 10 - 31 March 2021
In our exhibition "liquid solidity" the project space Zieglergasse becomes a place of the simultaneous. We escape the dampness and cold from outside and move into a protected interior space. Nevertheless, there we encounter the liquid, the solid, the mobile and the physical, an experience of interiority and exteriority - in the sculptures by Julia Belova and Gabriel Huth and in the paintings by Anna Carina Roth and Jessica Grundler.
"liquid solidity" shows a series of artistic works that are distributed as surfaces and bodies in different positions in the space and directly influence their respective surroundings. The works interact with the space and form a combination of flowing, dripping, hanging down and spilling out objects. On the one hand they are in motion, generating emotions, and on the other hand they are solidified into matter as painting, porcelain sculpture, plaster work or textile.
"Can a liquid be a solid?" triggers a question about simultaneity. What do we feel at the sight of these surfaces and forms? How can something be solid and liquid at the same time, appear dry and moist? The exhibition invites us to engage with the individual qualities of the artworks and the material and immaterial images that emanate from them. The title also alludes to the varying working practices of the four artists, who work with different media and materials. Thus Julia Belova's porcelain works pass through various stages of texture from malleable mass to fired object, or the plaster material in Gabriel Huth's work; in Anna Carina Roth's paintings the medium of the canvas becomes a reference partner, and Jessica Grundler's deals with the relationship of the frame.
The project space as an architectural space with a solid floor, a ceiling and four walls, combines shaping and liquefaction. It enables encounters, opens perspectives and allows new things to emerge.
