PAIRI DAEZA
Installation & Painting
"and my dream
the trees unbud."
Pablo Neruda. Oda a la jardinera
Of myths and metamorphoses. "Pairi Daeza" is ancient Persian and means "a wall enclosing a garden". This term later developed into "paradise". "Pairi Daeza" was a richly planted garden landscape into which no prying eyes should look and especially no evil spirit should intrude. And, of course, only there did the gods set their feet on the earth.
Evalie Wagner's installation of plants, paintings and objects plays with myths and elements from the history of botany. The arc spans from the Garden of Eden and antiquity to the Plant Fever of modern times.
