LABACK LAW and FRUHSTORFER LAW are pleased to invite you to another vernissage at our offices in Rotenturmstraße. For the second edition of the series "Art and Law", a cooperation with the Viennese gallery Rudolf Leeb, we are showing works by the Viennese artist Birgit Graschopf.
Birgit Graschopf became known for her wall exposures, in which the artist exposes or develops images directly on the wall. The wall itself thus became the image carrier. Graschopf is also currently experimenting with image carriers and materials and is working on the medium of photography in terms of both material and content. She often uses materials that defy conventional taste criteria, such as fiber cement or sandpaper.
Graschopf always works in the available light situations, photographing both in daylight and at night with artificial light. The people depicted are always female - but you don't know which women you are dealing with, yet they are always self-confident, alien, neither staffage nor object, merge into the background of the picture, as it were, and seem magically enraptured. The viewer is almost taken in by their presence as a matter of course. However, their faces and bodies seem to have been erased, knowing full well that the blurriness or indistinctness creates scope for the imagination.
In addition to a few works from important series for Graschopf in recent years, the exhibition will mainly feature recent works, some of which were only realized for this exhibition.
